From 12 to 2009

Something to start the year off with.

I've always thought that one perk of being an artist is that you get to keep your imaginary friends, and nobody laughs at you for it.

Shina is the one constant throughout almost all my sketchbooks. I created her when I was around... 12-13, back when the only thing I used the computer for was to play FFXI. (Also way before I dated my sketchbooks, unfortunately.)
I always love seeing other people do these. Seeing the evolution of one character through the years is incredibly interesting to me. And back when I was just starting to draw, seeing that some of my favorite artists were once at my level was a huge motivator.

Now that I'm posting my own, it's kind of a weird feeling. I feel like I've just gone through my mom's old photo album, and have gathered a bunch of my baby pictures to post online...

-As I stated above, before 2006 I did not date any of my stuff. As a result I had to guess at some of these, but for the most part it's pretty accurate.

-No, I don't consider her a "furry", although she is, well, furry.
To me, I've always thought of her as a mythical creature of sorts, like a satyr or mermaid (or werewolf, hur hur). Think of her what you will, that's just my own perspective.

-No, she's not me. In fact, if she were real, she'd probably find me kind of annoying.

-I didnt really have any nice sketches of her from this year. For the most part, my efforts have been focused elsewhere lately...
