Ginko by LancerMoo Ginko by LancerMoo
"An eyeless fish, at the bottom of perpetual darkness."

Soooo, I watched Mushi-shi over the weekend.
It's altogether creepy, touching, and inspiring, and daresay, I've fallen in love with it.

If you haven't seen it, GO WATCH IT NOW. GO. NOW.

So many episodes are worthy of fan art, but this moment in particular is one of my favorites. It's just... so tragic and yet so awe-inspiring at the same time, as soon as I saw it I dropped everything and got to scribbling away on my tablet.

Also, I feel the need to mention that scales are now officially the WORST thing to render in photoshop. ever.
Also: when you feel the need to take a break from drawing scales, it's a bad idea to start drawing another picture... involving scales. wth was I thinking.
Also: I've never drawn a fish before, much less a giant, ghostly, glowing fish. Holy crud was this hard.

AHMAHGOG! I didn't find out the kid was Ginko till the farmer called him Ginko. xD I had my suspicions when his hair changed, all the same, I felt so dumb. :I

I wish so badly I could draw like this. *cries* Nothing I draw is worthy of Mushi-shi's greatness.

Sorry but I laugh when I've read the end of your description :D. But don't worry, you really success to draw these scales :).

What is the title of this series ? I really don't know this, and I'm curious :).

Thank you !
LancerMoo Featured By Owner Jun 6, 2012
Haha, no need to apologize. ;D

The series is called Mushishi, if you google around you can probably find it on an anime site somewhere. I believe this painting is based on episode 12 or 13, whichever one is called "one-eyed fish"

I love this anime and I don't watch a lot of anime. I even named my betta fish Ginko. That's why your picture caught my eye. It looks like a serpent like betta fish to me. my betta Ginko just passed and I hiked to a waterfall close to my house to set him to rest. the way you drew yours is so beautiful. a very nice version. specially for being your first fish. it's very ghostly and angelic.

I have'nt gotten that far into the serries, but my favorite episode was when Ginko helpped the little boy who could draw things to life,it was really cute and touching. I loved Ginko's example of Describing the Mushi,it was...cute. XD

I've also fallen in LOVE with the serries.

I am on episode 21 of this series. I too have fallen in love with it. I decided to see if anyone was creating art for it. Yours came up after some digging and I am not displeased. Beautiful work! It has a living-feeling to it. I'm waiting for it to glide right out of my screen.

I love it. I agree completely about Mushi-shi. It's not like any anime I've ever seen. I feel like it's a collection of old folk-tales or ancient literature. I can't believe it exists as a show. Great job on the picture. It captures the moment perfectly!

i completely love this episode!!! *spoiler* except i cried when at the end that lady died... you completely mastered the fish! its beautiful! im glad to see that others like this series just as much as i do!
LancerMoo Featured By Owner Oct 14, 2010
Yeah, I think the episode itself was very well done, I liked getting some insight into Ginko's history without having him figure it out; if that makes any sense. We got to know something about him that he didn't even know about himself... It gave the rest of the series a more interesting perspective, at least for me. (Sorry, that wasn't very well worded, but I hope the idea gets through.)
And it's always nice to find another person who enjoys the same series, especially the more underappreciated ones. :)
